Migratory birds can still be expected in the Central Ostrobothnia region – only a few individuals have arrived
Already sightings of the pigeon have been recorded along the Kalajoki coast and the greenfinch in Pietarsaari. Real flocks can be expected in the province only in March.
The mild start to the year has not yet prompted migratory birds to return to Central Ostrobothnia.
Only a few individuals have been sighted in the region: for example, a Pintail was spotted in Kalajoki this week and a Greenfinch in Pietarsaari.
They may also be individuals that have overwintered.
In southern Finland, the first migrants were spotted in early February.
At that time, the first flocks of migration are predicted to arrive.
According to Hassel, February-March for central-borne birdwatchers sometimes feel frustrating, while at the same time a Satakunta field may already have tens of thousands of geese.
However, climate change has also made the return of birds to Central Ostrobothnia for a few weeks.
– Birds arrive in the spring earlier than average, but the snow and ice situation also regulate income. If there is a lot of snow in winter, then the snow border will affect certain species, such as geese. Similarly, the back winter.
When it comes to March, bigger groups of black sparrows, green sparrows and extras are likely to be found in Central Ostrobothnia. They are all time arrivals.
