A major project to replace fossil fuels will start next year at LUT.

In three years, a laboratory will be completed in Lappeenranta to study synthetic electric fuels and chemicals made from water and carbon dioxide.

LUT University has received €4 million in funding to build a new research laboratory.

The laboratory studies synthetic electric fuels and chemicals made from water and carbon dioxide. They can be used to replace fossil fuels.

This is a P2X or power-to-x study, which uses an electric current to produce hydrogen from water.

LUT University received funding from Business Finland for the largest project in its history.

The laboratory is scheduled to be completed on the Lappeenranta campus by the end of 2025. The project will start next year. All the faculties of LUT University are involved in it.
