Bad weather and darkness reduce outdoor activities for Finns

Finns tend to cut back on outdoor activities because of bad weather and darkness. This suggests that for many people, outdoor activities decrease at least to some extent during the winter months, says the Natural Resources Institute Finland.

But getting out and about in nature has major health benefits. As well as keeping you physically fit, it helps you recover from stress and calm down, so getting outdoors should be important all year round.

According to the National Institute for Health and Welfare, around 10% of women and 5% of men reduce their active commuting in winter.
