Pyhtää Cultural Centre, known for its courtyard concerts, was awarded as a domestic tourist attraction – started as a corona project

A former town hall
Pyhtää Culture House has a wide range of activities. It used to serve as Pyhtää’s municipal hall.

The prize is awarded by the Guild of Tourism Journalists. It was presented at the Helsinki Travel Fair.

The Guild of Tourism Journalists has again selected the winner of the Tourism Destination of the Year award for Kymenlaakso.

This time the prize was awarded to the Pyhtää Cultural Centre. The prize was awarded today, Thursday, at the Helsinki Exhibition Centre’s Matkamessu.

The criteria for the award include the fact that new activities have sprung up in Pyhtää’s old municipal hall, which has been left empty, bringing new life to the area, both locally and for tourists.

– The award came as a surprise. We feel that we are still at the beginning of our journey in the tourism industry. We are really happy, says Norro.

A house full of action

Pyhtää’s cultural house has been established in a building that used to be Pyhtää’s municipal hall. It was left empty when new facilities were built for the municipal hall. It turned into a cultural center in 2021.

– We acquired it a bit as a corona project, Nea Norro says.

The cultural center is best known for the garden concerts organized in the summer.

– We have had a lot of top Finnish artists perform, which has been really lucky, says Norro.

Accommodation and working spaces can also be rented from Kulttuuritalo, and art exhibitions and events can be held there. Kulttuuritalo also has its own cafe.

Norro says that at the moment the wing of the building is full of work rooms for creators in the creative industry.

– There is, among other things, the weaving line of Loviisa’s civic college.
