The latest donation brings 117 new works to Kokkola by four artists whose works have been widely exhibited in Europe since the 1930s.
Kokkolainen K.H. There were already 600 works classified as outsider art in the Renlund museum’s collections, the latest donation increases the number by 117 works.
The already strong collection attracts new donations.
– This kind of snowball effect works here, it swells and swells. A significant donation is coming to us next year as well.
According to Ahmaksen, the donors have stated that the Kokkola museum is big enough to take care of the collection and on the other hand small enough, so donations are of great importance for a museum of this size.
K. H. The Renlund Museum has defined international marginal art as its special profile. The museum’s dream is that one day the collection would have the kind of exhibition spaces that would make the collection an attraction in the city.
– In 2009, the city council already made a decision in principle about the new exhibition hall. When might that happen? The city should make use of this collection, says Ahmas.
The new works come from two Central European donors
Madge Gill (1881-1962) is one of the most respected self-taught artists. He became interested in spiritualism and the supernatural world early on. Gill’s works are characterized by an almost frenzied and hallucinatory filling of an empty surface with decorative and quasi-architectural patterns, Ahmas characterizes.
Frey, who died this year, was a psychotherapist and he drew non-stop. Schärer also represents the art of special groups.
Born in 1935, Haas is a well-known artist in the field of marginal art, whose works have previously been exhibited in Finland as part of the Amman collection.
Neither donation includes conditions or requirements for the museum or the city.
