Veterinarian warns pet owners: up to 14 dog bites in Juva over one weekend

About 50 dogs are brought to the Juva Municipal Veterinary Hospital every year because of a dog bite. Sometimes there can be up to 14 cases in one weekend.

The spring sunshine draws the pens out of their hiding places.

No pets have been brought in yet this year because of a kyy bite, but that could change this weekend.

For a few years, the Korpikallio clinic has been recording the number of treated bites by vipers. There are about 50 a year.

On warm weekends, customers may be in queue.

The golden eagle is an endangered bird of prey, and its nest tree has been protected.

An eagle can flee from its nest if it detects a human hundreds of metres away. The chicks are then badly affected.

Metsähallitus is appealing to free-flight skiers and hikers in the fells to circle the nests of the golden eagle as far away as possible. The breeding season for the endangered golden eagle started in February and the hatching season is currently underway. A golden eagle can abandon a nest at the slightest disturbance.

According to Metsähallitus, hikers should continue their journey quickly if they spot a golden eagle nest or a bird flying from the nest. A golden eagle may spot a person hundreds of metres away and flee from its nest, in which case the eggs may freeze and the chicks may die.

An eagle builds a large nest of twigs in old trees on the slopes of fells and dunes and in forest islands in bogs.

Metsähallitus hopes that snowmobilers will remain on the routes used and free -to -free areas in hobby areas to keep natural peace on the other. The eagle has abandoned nests in areas where people have begun to move.

Venice entrance fee doubles for last-minute travellers

Venice reintroduces the entrance fee and raises its price for last-minute tourists. Venice is the first city in the world to charge tourists an entrance fee.

A year ago, Venice became the world’s first city to charge admission. Its five-euro ticket was on trial in the city from April to July.

From tomorrow, the fee will be reintroduced and doubled for passengers arriving in the city with three days’ notice.

You have to pay an entrance fee if you arrive in Venice for a day trip during peak periods, i.e. certain weekends and public holidays. Once again this year, an unticketed traveller could face a fine of up to €300.
