The fate of Lahti’s ground-level power plant will be decided next week

Opening a geothermal power plant would require several expensive repairs.

At its next meeting, the Lahti Welfare and Leisure Board will decide what to do with the ground swimming pool, which has reached the end of its useful life.

The proposal is to close the swimming pool.

Opening the power plant would require several expensive repairs, which in any case would prevent the power plant from operating in the coming summer. Even a basic renovation would require the replacement of the HVAC system, the pools and the maintenance building. The estimated cost of these is around €8 million.

The refurbishment does not include the measures required to develop the services of the outdoor swimming pool and does not eliminate the problem of accessibility.

The city of Lahti is currently planning a new water sports center. The aim is to decide on the location options for the water sports center next fall. The construction of the center would begin at the earliest in 2027.
