\”One day you have to die, but other days you have to live\” – the sailing duo sold everything, shipwrecked in Australia and finally returned

Aiski Kainuvaara and Miia Pärnänen encourage others to go on a sailing trip. The end of the six-year journey was witnessed by dozens of people at Kirkkonummi’s Kantvik harbor.

– No pressure for parking! No one is looking that way, comes the cry.

Dozens of people burst into laughter on the sun-baked platform. Each pair of eyes is directed at the approaching boat. The air vibrates with anticipation.

The red sailboat, Omaha, has just arrived at Kirkkonummi’s Kantvik harbor. Beaching seems to go smoothly for sailors as they are used to. And it’s no wonder, because this has been done a lot lately.

The trip was carefully planned

Kaunuvaara already dreamed of such a trip as a child.

– This has been a dream since I was little. Then it happened to be the right moment for work – and otherwise – to leave. We wanted to do this trip while we are still young and fresh and able to move.

The initial spark happened in 2007 in South America. That’s when Kainuvaara decided that he wanted to make such a trip.

The first thing I had to do was get a passing game. He bought a steel 42-foot Danish sailboat. Omaha, who was about 40 years old, was not yet ready for the trip.

– For five years it was renovated, repaired and prepared. Then the decision was made to leave.

Kainuvaara and Pärnänen sold everything for the trip. The apartment and chattels were allowed to leave. All funds were used for the long-awaited trip.

The anchor rose on June 29, 2016 from Kirkkonummi.

The corona situation may become more difficult in the fall, but at least now there are no new restrictions in sight – chief physician: \”We trust people’s judgment\”

The corona situation in Päijät-Häme has remained fairly stable towards the end of the summer. There are many infections, but the need for hospitalization has not increased in recent weeks.

Päijät-Häme Central Hospital currently has more than 20 patients with corona. The number has remained the same for several weeks.

Autumn can worsen the corona situation

According to Nieminen, the number of corona infections and, with it, the need for hospitalization may start to increase as the weather cools down.

– In the summer, people go out more and stay further away from each other. In the fall, we pack indoors again.

Cool air itself can also help the virus spread.

– Presumably, the issues of temperature and air humidity also affect the transmission characteristics of this virus, says Nieminen.

There is no definite information on the duration of protection provided by vaccines

According to current information, vaccines provide good protection against a severe form of the disease for several months.

– If you have been vaccinated and on the other hand have contracted the disease, you have good protection against a serious form of the disease for at least nine months, says Nieminen.

There is no longer-term information, because the virus variant that is currently in power was only created about nine months ago, explains Nieminen.

Nieminen encourages following THL’s recommendations regarding vaccines. THL recommends taking the fourth corona vaccine for severely immunocompromised people over 12 years old, adults in risk groups and everyone over 60 years old.

Are there any new restrictions coming?
