The joint venture between the Bee and the Wellbeing Region will treat 70% of the population of Väijäthämälä – some candidates think the share is too high

Three people are talking to a radio studio by microphones.
The Päijät-Häme regional council candidates remained united in the Radio Finland regional election debate.

In addition to Lahti, the Harju Health Social Centre also operates in Iiti, Kärkölä and Hartola.

The joint venture between the Päijät-Häme welfare region and Mehiläinen, Harju Health, has established itself in three years, but some of the candidates for the regional elections consider its share of the health services of Päijät-Häme residents to be too high.

Mehiläinen owns 51% of the company and the welfare region 49%.

Of the candidates who responded to Yle’s election questionnaire, 39% think that Harju Health has too much of a share in the services provided to the people of Harju.

Two people are sitting in a radio studio.
Kirsi Lehtimäki (S&D) and Harri Pikkarainen (left) would reduce the share of Harju Health in the services provided to the people of Harju.

-The high share of Harju’s health has contributed to the fact that the welfare area’s own social centers have not been developed with the same intensity. This message also comes from staff, says Kirsi Lehtimäki.

The city clarified the legal liability of officials in the procurement process for a street maintenance contract that went wrong.

A report on the actions of Lahti officials in the botched procurement of a street maintenance contract has been completed. The missing information in the excel sheet led to further clarification of the legal liability of the officials in the case.

The study has been commissioned by external auditors. The audit concerned a spreadsheet error in the procurement process and internal controls over the handling of the case.

A dispute also arose between the city and the contractor: in January 2024, the city started preparing a complaint to the district court.

“Like a little boy in a sledding hill” – see how Janne Ahonen even came close to the Finnish star on the Lahti hill

Janne Ahonen told us earlier that he had no initial desire to jump from the Lahti Big Hill. But on Thursday morning he enjoyed it.

When the duathlon challenge was cleared, Ahonen described that he had no urge to jump. Even now, Ahonen said it was difficult to go to practice. However, his mind was changed. When she had to start concentrating on jumping, Ahonen started to get excited.

– Oh joke, I enjoyed that! I felt like a little boy on a bobsleigh track, Ahonen says.

Ahonen wondered after his training session whether he should now dare to go even faster for Saturday’s showpiece event.

– If you could get a little further, Ahonen said.
