Metsuri’s story, which won an award at Cannes, will now be seen for the first time in Finland – the director already felt like winning the lottery during filming

Metsuri’s story will be seen at Kokkola’s Kinojuhl this weekend. The arrival of film art in Central Ostrobothnia seems almost like a dream to the filmmakers.

The Kokkola Kinojuhlat, which starts today, Thursday, will be organized for the fifth time.

This year, the theme of the event is America and travel.

It has been great for the filmmakers to notice how the arrival of Cinema Art in Kokkola and Central Ostrobothnia strengthens the identity and importance of cinema in the region.

Filmmaking landing in Central Ostrobothnia \”an almost dreamlike development\”

Jarkko Lahti, the actor of the main character of the film \”Metsuri tarina\” considers the arrival of the film industry in Central Ostrobothnia to be an almost dreamlike development.

– It is a very desirable and wonderful, even dreamlike development that Finnish film art has specifically settled in Kokkola. You couldn’t have imagined this when you were younger, says Lahti.

In Lahti’s opinion, Kokkola has always been a strong cultural city.

– But the fact that the film now has such a big identity and importance here in Kokkola and the Central Ostrobothnia region, that’s a great thing, he says.

Lahti believes that the arrival of Cinematography has required several professionals to enter the field at the same time.

– It has required at least that we have had several active professionals in the field at the same time, and it has then created various synergies, Lahti states.

\”Now there’s such a lottery win that you’re going to lose your branches\”

According to Lahti, getting the lead role is always a chance for a Finnish actor.

– Very few Finnish actors get to make a film at all, and even fewer of them get to make a film from, so to speak, artistic starting points, he says.

– A really top-notch performance, although in art it is of course always difficult to talk about performances.

– It’s world-class acting that he does in this film. Even on one day of filming, it was said that now Jarkko won such a lottery that the branches are gone, laughs Myllylahti.

The premiere of director Myllylahtea at the Kokkola Kinojuhl is exciting despite the praise the film received from foreign critics. The same atmosphere is also in Lahti.

– Yes, this is at least as exciting as in Cannes in May. This is just a different kind of excitement, really emotional, because this is a home place where relatives and loved ones are there, says Lahti.

At Kinojuhl, the atmosphere is festive

The combination of the music accompanied by the Central Ostrobothnia Chamber Orchestra and the Chaplin’s son silent film into a unified whole inspires Kuosma in particular.

– After all, there are festive feelings here, when after five years of waiting, dreams come true, Kuosmanen rejoices.

According to the organizer, tickets for the Kinojuhli events have been sold well in advance. According to Kuosmanen, some performances have even been sold out, such as the Beggars of Life cinema concert.

– Instead of quantity, I would rather talk about a qualitative goal. Everyone who comes should enjoy the festival and we as organizers will be satisfied, says Kukkola.

In 2021, 2,300 tickets were sold for Kinojuhlie events, but at that time there were still corona restrictions. There is no actual audience target for the organizers, but the hopes are at least similar numbers.

_The subject can be discussed until Friday, September 9 at 11 p.m._.
