The beach is being restored to protect endangered species. Several rare plants and insects occur on the beach. At the same time, recreational use of the beach will improve.
The sandy beach of Ajos, \u200b\u200blocated in the embrace of the sea in Kemi, was once a popular swimming spot and people came there to spend warm summer days. However, the beach has not had official bathing beach status for years, so the beautiful sea view and beach sand have been covered by vegetation.
Now, however, this is about to change. Clearing work begins on the beach, during which the vegetation is cleared and the sea view opens up.
The background is the restoration of the beach and the protection of endangered habitats.
– Of course, you have to remember that nature itself is not stable, but if we are talking about traditional landscape nature types, then they have severely declined and in some places disappeared.
As an example of these, Brusila mentions the roasting fields.
– These fields are typically open, where the sun can get scorching vegetation and the field layer is very low.
In Ajos Puidenpuutuma, you can also find endangered species, such as the back sea maruna, ruijanesikka and swamp brook kämmekka, as well as endangered beetles.
The vegetation zone that has grown on the beach is now being cleared. In the future, the hope is that the wind blowing from the sea will move the sand on the beach, which would contribute to the restoration of the beach’s sand surface area.
In the future, the recreational use of the beach will also improve, but it will not become an official swimming beach.
– We are in the Natura nature reserve. Normal use is possible, but this will not become an official beach. The restoration is done completely under natural conditions, but yes, it also significantly improves the possibilities for recreational use, i.e. here this landscape opens up clearly better and it is more pleasant to spend a summer day here.
