Observations of the animal have been made in the Porvoo and Sipoo areas. They should be reported to the game management association and the police as soon as possible.
In Porvoo, a possible wolf was seen on the Haikkoo fitness track on Wednesday morning, according to the Porvoo game management association.
The Itä-Uusimaa police have also received a sighting of a wolf this morning. According to the police, it was only a visual observation, not a situation that posed a danger or threat to a person.
– I made the decision that the authorities must try to solve the matter, and on these grounds I will start preparing the deportation decision, which came into effect on October 18 for three weeks. In that, we are asking the Porvoo game management association for official help to expel the wolf to an area where it has a better habitat, says Merihaara.
Observations must be reported without delay
According to commissioner Olavi Merihaara, the risk of conflict increases when a wolf enters an area that is heavily populated by humans. So far, the police have not received a report that the animal was successfully expelled.
– The operating environment near Porvoo is challenging. Highway 7 forms a geographical fence in a way, and when a wolf goes north, it will probably run into a game fence. It is also not dangerous for a wolf to live here, but it has a really big risk of being run over by a car, Merihaara states.
According to Joa Bergqvist, the activity supervisor of the game management association, observations should be reported to the police and the game management association as quickly as possible, so that they can plan together what to do with the animal.
