Wolf DNA is analysed from faeces. Stool samples are collected for DNA monitoring from early November to the end of February.

The Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) is training volunteers to become part of the wolf DNA sample collection network coordinated by the Finnish Game Institute. The network is made up of volunteers from the wild, such as hunters and other nature enthusiasts.

In addition to DNA sample collectors, a network of collection officers will be appointed. The collection officer will distribute instruction and sample collection material to collectors, receive samples from the region and forward them for further analysis.
