Tikka was a major influence on Finnish music life. A documentary film about him was completed last spring.
Tikka’s last work was the opera *Love is stronger than death*. It was performed at the Alexander Theatre in Helsinki in the autumn of 2020, just before interest rate restrictions closed the venues again.
Tikka composed sacred music, choral and solo songs, orchestral and chamber music.
As an oboist, Tikka worked with the Helsinki City Orchestra, the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Finnish National Opera. As a conductor, he has worked with the Tampere Theatre, Finnish National Opera, Radio Symphony Orchestra and Stockholm Royal Opera, among others.
Tikka was a significant influence in Finnish music life. He is also remembered as the founder and conductor of the Youth Symphony Orchestra Vivo.
