The Lahti City Council has rejected a plan amendment that would have allowed an overpass to be built on Aleksanterinkatu.
The city council voted on the issue on Monday, the amendment was defeated by a vote of 6-4.
The aim of the zoning change was to enable the development of Hämeenmaa’s hotel business by means of a bridge over the main street in the city centre. The bridge would have connected the Seurahuone and Sokos, where Hämeenmaa has built new hotel rooms.
The overpass across Aleksanterinkatu for hotel customers has divided the opinions of the townspeople for and against. In its statement, the Lahti City Museum does not advocate the construction of a pedestrian bridge.
