In Ely’s opinion, the need to protect the building should be decided locally in connection with the pending site plan change.
The movie theater Iso-Hannu located in Rauma is not designated as a protected site based on the Building Heritage Act.
Varsinais-Suomen ely-keskus justifies its decision with the fact that the building has no national value. According to the Ely center, the need to protect the building and its interior is indisputable, but it should be clarified in connection with the pending site plan change by the city of Rauma.
Several parties were consulted
During the protection process, the Office of Museums, the City of Rauma, the Satakuntaliitto, the Design Museum, the owner and keeper of the property and building, neighbors and the Old Rauma Foundation were consulted.
In the statement of the Finnish Museum Agency, the site was found to be locally valuable as an individual building, the most appropriate way to bring its protection up to date would be to find out in connection with the pending site plan change.
In its statements, the city of Rauma hoped that the building would be protected by the Building Heritage Act, after which the regulations according to the decision could be introduced into the site plan. The Satakuntaliitto and the Design Museum also supported the protection proposal in their own statements.
