The mayor of Lahti is rushing the construction of the runway

The runway is connected to the Suomirata project, where it is planned to speed up train connections between Helsinki and Tampere. A recent report shows that acceleration options do not limit the construction schedule of the runway.

The runway is part of the Suomirata project, which aims to speed up train connections between Helsinki and Tampere. The alternatives are improving the old track or building a new track.

In the report published last Friday, the price, benefits and disadvantages of acceleration options have been weighed. The mayor of Lahti, Timonen, considers it important that Lentorata is still included in all options.

He emphasizes that it would be possible to implement the Lentorata separately long before the changes to the Helsinki–Tampere line.

– It has become even clearer that Lentorata can also be implemented earlier and regardless of other alignment decisions. I think it is a clear message from our point of view that the construction of the runway must be hastened and it must be done as quickly as possible.

The city of Lahti is a partner in the Suomirata planning company with approximately two million euros.
