Asikkala’s municipal council voted in favor of school savings on Monday evening. Next, the matter goes to the preparation of the boards.
At its Monday night meeting, Asikkala’s municipal council approved a motion on the progress of closing three schools.
According to the proposal, the students of Kalkkisten, Länsi-Asikkala and Anianpello schools would be transferred to Aurinkovuori school in Vääksy.
According to the proposal, Anianpello and Kalkkisten schools would be closed already next year. Länsi-Asikkala school would continue until the end of the spring semester of 2025.
The tightest fight in the council took place over the Länsi-Asikkala school, where the motion was approved by 16 – 15 votes.
Addresses were also delivered to the council on behalf of Kalkkisten school and the group family day care unit and Länsi-Asikkala.
The decision made now does not automatically mean closing schools. Next, the matter proceeds to the board’s preparation.
The school in Anianpello has the largest number of students, with more than a hundred students and nine teachers. The Kalkkinen school has 15 students and two teachers, the Länsi-Asikkala school has 29 students.
The presentation is part of Asikkala’s financial program, which seeks savings of 1.8 million euros.
The municipality plans to sell Kalkkisten and Länsi-Asikkala schools. Anianpello school is going to be demolished and its plot will be rezoned.
