The Lahti region should give up the illegal model where the property organizes waste transport – a new decision is being prepared

The responsibility for organizing should be transferred to the municipalities.

The way waste transport is organized is once again in doubt in the Lahti region.

The region has stuck to a system where property owners bid for waste transport themselves. The Administrative Court and the Supreme Administrative Court have previously considered that the model does not meet the requirements of the Waste Act, but no new decision has been made.

A recent report prepared by the Lahti regional waste management authority also states that the current practice is against the law, and that the region should switch to waste transportation tendered by Salpakierto Oy. Municipalities have previously decided that if the organization of waste transport is transferred to them, it will be handled with the help of Salpakierro.

The new decision on the mixed and energy waste transport system is being prepared by gathering statements from municipalities and authorities. The change would affect Asikkala, Hollola, Lahte, Myrskylä, Padasjoki and Pukkila, as well as the urban area of \u200b\u200bHeinola and Orimattila, with the exception of Artjärvi.
