The city is preparing a plan change for the area it owns, where Kärkkäinen’s billboard would be.
The city of Lahti is making a plan change to enable the construction of a new, tall advertising pole in Renkomäki. A location is being planned for the 40-meter Kärkkäinen advertising pylon very close to the traffic station ABC, in the recreation area of \u200b\u200bKirkkomiehenpuisto.
Bauhaus, which operates next to the zoning area, has stated in its statement in the draft phase that it does not accept the placement of an advertising pylon right on the border of its plot, nor the pylon’s maintenance traffic on its plot, if its construction is allowed. According to the city, it is possible to build the pylon without using the Bauhaus plot for walking.
Bauhaus also points out that in 2020 it was only granted a permit for a 25-meter advertising pole, but the pole was not built because visibility would have been poor. If a taller pylon is now allowed next door, the company is ready to start such a design on its own property.
Kärkkäinen’s department store is located a few hundred meters from the site planned for the pylon. There has been a place for an advertising pole on the store’s lot, but the possibility of its construction was removed in 2016, because a plan change and a district heating center were made in the same place. The replacement location would be Kirkkomiehenpuisto.
On Wednesday, October 18, the Lahti Urban Environment Board decided to approve the site plan amendment proposal for public viewing.
