Ylen Uutiskoulu’s purpose is to find new talents outside of traditional journalism training. The application for Yle Uutiskoulu starting in January has opened.
Yle Uutiset and Yle Urheilu start Yle’s own journalism training program. The purpose of Yle Uutiskoulu is to offer the basic lessons of news journalism and practical work training for future journalists.
The hope is that applicants come from different educational and skill backgrounds, from different parts of Finland.
It is a journalistic internship program that starts as an experiment for those who are nearing the end of their studies or have recently graduated, who want to try out their skills in the field of journalism. The continuation of the training program is evaluated based on the first trial period.
The training program lasts eight months and there is a place to study for six trainees. At the end of the training, students get to work as summer journalists in Yle’s news and sports departments.
The goal is versatility and variety
– Our hope is to get applicants with different backgrounds, different skills and diverse source networks, so that our content will also be enriched and diversity in news delivery will be strengthened, Jokinen explains.
With the news school experiment, we also want to prepare for a possible labor shortage.
In addition to news and current affairs, the News School also includes Yle Urheilu.
The application to Yle Uutiskoulu has opened and training will start in January 2023.
