At its worst, the allergy season can last from January to October. The fragrance that is sweeping Europe stretches the season from the end and the mild winters from the beginning.
The pollen season was exceptionally long this year, says the Aerobiology Unit of the University of Turku.
This year, the season started in February and continued into October. According to the university, climate change has brought forward the flowering of many species.
In February, pollen from European hazel and linden trees reached Finland before the local flowering period.
At the end of the pollen season, the pollen of the sedge, which is related to the pujo, was extended to Finland exceptionally often during the fall.
Typically, scented pollen is observed in Finland in small quantities and only on individual days in August and September. This year, even a scent of pollen traveled to Finland from the end of August almost every week until the middle of October.
In addition, the concentration of scented pollen in the air was one of the highest concentrations ever observed in Finland.
