Canadian Luka Coetzee wins the Paulo cello competition

Canadian Luka Coetzee has won the Paulo cello competition in 2023. He is standing on stage with a bouquet of flowers and a diploma in the picture.
Canadian Luka Coetzee has won this year’s Paulo Cello Competition.

Six cellists played in the final of the International Paulo Cello Competition. The final concerts were played in Helsinki’s Musiikkitalo.

Coetzee, an 18-year-old student from Weimar, Germany, was awarded €20 000 and a cello bow built by Risto Vainio. The second prize is €15 000 and the third €12 000.

Coetzee played Krzysztof Penderecki’s Cello Concerto No 2 in the Music Hall final.
