The autumn 2022 savings plan will be followed during the winter period, for example by lowering temperatures in office buildings and reducing outdoor lighting.

The City of Lahti will continue its proven energy saving programme in the coming winters.

In autumn 2022, the city set up a programme that reduced energy consumption and delivered clear savings. The savings compensated for the increase in energy prices and, for example, electricity consumption fell by 8% in nine months.

For Lahti residents, the savings were reflected in public buildings’ temperatures, outdoor lighting and sports facilities, among other things. At Lahti’s Jäätori, the city saved around €100 000 last winter. The ice rink will not be built in the coming winter months, but will be replaced by an outdoor ice rink in Kisapuisto.

In the future, the city will try to better take into account the needs of the city’s residents in its cost-saving measures. For example, in swimming halls, one or more saunas are heated according to the number of users, says Arola.

– Last winter, there were situations where only one sauna was warm in the swimming halls, when there were many customers. Now enough changes have been made that we act as needed and take into account the number of customers so that customer service is not harmed.

According to Arola, the measures will continue at last winter’s level, which means that no new cost-saving measures are planned.
