Four international cruise ships are coming to Oulu next summer, bringing a total of around 2800 cruise guests to the city. The cruise season will start with the visit of two ships with around 250 passengers in May and June. These ships will also call at Kalajoki during their voyage.
The larger cruise ships arriving later in the summer will come to Oulu from Germany and will mainly serve German and British passengers. One will carry 900 passengers and the other around 1200.
– For example, rafting, canoeing and night owl tours led by bird guides are available in Koitelinkoski in Oulu,” says Åqvist.
The bird and nature theme is also highlighted by the fact that one of the destinations is Liminganlahti.
In the past, Oulu has mostly been visited by individual cruisers, but due to the corona, even these trips have been interrupted.
Sipe Åqvist says that in the future, Go Arctic’s goal is to increase the number of cruises so that there could be about ten cruises during the year.
