The City of Lahti has been awarded an honourable mention in the Best Circular Economy Solutions for Municipalities competition.

The aim was to encourage municipalities to promote the sustainable use of natural resources and reduce harmful impacts on nature and the environment.

Out of 20 finalists, the city of Tampere was chosen as the winner, and three other municipalities or operators were awarded an honourable mention, in addition to Lahti.

In Lahti, the prize was awarded for the renovation of the City Hall, where 99% of construction waste was recycled. The competition was organised by the Finnish Environment Institute, the Association of Finnish Local and Regional Authorities and Sitra.
