The price of parking permits in the vicinity of Gaudia high school is proposed to be reduced. The students of the upper secondary school, which opened in Paavola in Lahti in August, have considered the parking fees in the area too high.
Next week, it will be proposed to the Urban Environment Committee that the price of the contract parking permit for the Laaksokatu and Kauppakatu parking areas will be reduced from 50 euros to 37 euros per month.
For students in the campus area, the price of contracted parking in the Laaksokatu parking area would be 25 euros per month.
Students and staff have hoped that they could be granted a free parking permit. According to the presentation to the board, parking in the center is basically always paid. Granting a permit only to those who need it for special personal reasons would be administratively difficult to implement.
The presentation also reminds that students of compulsory school age coming from outside the public transport routes are entitled to the school travel allowance granted by Kela. The support is intended to cover travel-related expenses such as parking fees.
The city environment committee will meet to decide on the Paavola campus parking permit issue on September 14.
