The old suspension bridge in Pirunkuru will be replaced by a new metal bridge. At the same time, all signage along the footpath will also be replaced.
The Savukoski Kivitunturi route, which attracts 10 000 hikers every year, will get a new bridge and signposts in the summer. A bridge construction site in Pirunkuru will prevent the circumnavigation of the ring route.
However, the Kivitunturi trail is accessible via the northern trail, which also leads to the longer Sotsonport trail. The return must be made on the same path back.
According to a Metsähallitus release, the old Pirunkuru suspension bridge will be dismantled from 12.6. The new metal bridge is expected to be in use by the end of August.
Funding for the restoration of the bridge and the renewal of the signage has been received from the Eastern Lapland development fund.
