50 meters of fabric were used for the wrap boleros. The stone men’s big biceps brought challenges when dressing.
Today, Monday, the Lantern Bearers of the Helsinki Railway Station, or stonemasons, got new accessories that you can’t help but recognize.
– These have been made by four seamstresses almost non-stop over the past week, Tyynilä says.
Kivimen’s biceps are big, so putting them on was a challenge at first. The seamstress followed and supervised the installation, which was done by a crane, so that the outfits could be put in place correctly.
– Fortunately, the stonemasons otherwise don’t mind dressing up, Tyynilä laughs.
The clothing of the lantern bearers is always carefully considered
The almost 110-year-old stonemen have been dressed in different outfits before. They were last seen wearing corona masks and plasters.
According to Tyynilä, the dressing of stone men is always carefully considered. They don’t put anything on.
– The wrapper has become an international phenomenon in recent weeks, and we wanted to do our part to support it. Käärijä outfits are perfect for the spring atmosphere.
The wrap-boleros will stay on stonemen for at least this week.
– Of course, we hope that Käärijä will win, and then I would think that the stone men would also celebrate the victory a little longer, Tyynilä says.
The Lantern Bearers designed by Emil Wikström were completed in 1914. Earlier Kivimiehet have now received, for example, Leijona shirts and Kiss masks.
