The entire city’s joint cleaning work is underway in Rovaniemi – cleaning tools can be borrowed from the library

A group of people of different ages are standing together looking at the camera and holding big garbage bags and garbage tongs in their hands.
The Chamber Orchestra of Lapland participated in the clean-up work on Wednesday by collecting garbage from the center in the vicinity of Korundi.

In May, the environment in Rovaniemi is kept clean jointly by the entire city for the third year in a row.

In Rovaniemi, the sight of ordinary people picking up trash on the roadside has been pleasing in recent days. Joint cleaning strikes are currently underway in the city, which will last until the end of May.

You can participate in the talks by collecting trash independently or with a friend, or by organizing a clean-up campaign with your own community. According to the city, it is a low-threshold event in which everyone can participate in their own way.

The city’s website has compiled instructions for both independent garbage collection and organizing your own cleaning efforts. Participants in the talks are asked to share photos of their adventures with tags on social media

In addition, Rovaniemi is participating in Yle’s million trash bags campaign, which lasts until the middle of June. The goal of the campaign is for all of Finland to collect a total of one million bags of garbage from the environment during the spring and early summer.

Borrow cleaning tools from the library

Cleaning tools, i.e. trash cans, can be borrowed from Rovaniemi libraries with a library card. This spring, we have received slightly more cleaning tools than before and they are available in the main library and in the libraries of Saarenkylä, Ounasrinte, Muurola, Korkalovaara and Vanttauskoski, as well as in the library car.

The goal is that the pliers will remain in the library for residents to borrow even after the cleaning tasks.

Pliers can be borrowed from Rovaniemi Kansalaistalo and the city’s customer service point Osviita for associations and rescue groups. Alltime Oy is also involved in the talks, as in the past years, and associations can agree with them to pick up trash between May 22 and June 4.
