According to the Finnish Natural Resources Agency, the number of lynx has decreased in the areas of the Finnish Game Center only in South Häme.
The number of lynxes has increased in Finland, the Finnish Natural Resources Agency said in its press release on Thursday.
According to the latest population estimate, there are approximately 2,390-2,575 lynx over one year old living in Finland. Last year, the corresponding estimate ranged from 2,150 to 2,405 individuals.
According to Luke, the number of lynx has decreased in the areas of the Finnish Game Center only in South Häme.
The number of lynxes has clearly increased in Rannikko-Ostrobothnia, Kainuu, Central Finland, Pohjois Häme and Lapland outside the reindeer husbandry area.
According to Luke, the observed population growth is the result of moderate hunting taxation.
Based on the most recent estimate, there have been just under two hundred lynx litters in Central Finland.
The lynx population estimate is based on research data on lynx biology and observations of lynx cubs made by predator contact persons from last September to the end of February.
The assessment does not include Åland’s litter observations. It also does not have an estimate for puppies born in May-June 2022 due to uncertainties related to the estimate.
