In the spring nest counts, it has been observed that a few cubs were born outside the fishing restricted areas and in the peripheral areas. Metsähallitus sets new restrictions around the nesting site of the buzzard.

The aim is to expand the fishing restrictions in Puruveti, Etelä Saimaa and Pihlajavedi. The reason for the fishing restrictions is the protection of the Saimaa norpa.

So far, nest counts have found that two nestlings were born outside the fishing restricted areas and three were born in the peripheral areas.

In order to protect the Saimaa norpa, Metsähallitus sets new fishing restrictions in Puruveti during May and June.

The first Kuutti in Puruvesi was born in the spring of 2018, after which kuuttis have been born in the Puruvesi area more widely. The growth of the Saimaa roe deer population has encouraged roe deer to return to areas from which they have previously disappeared due to human activity.

Pohjois-Savo ely center will also start negotiations with the owners of the water area. The prerequisite for setting fishing restrictions is the decision of the cooperatives.

According to the Ely Center’s data, the number of babies born outside the restricted areas and in the peripheral areas may still increase. Because of this, there may be a need to expand the protected area. Fishing restrictions prevent, for example, cod getting caught in fishing nets and drowning.

Metsähallitus informs about the changes in license conditions for commercial fishing and recreational fishing on the website www.eraluvat.fi.
