It is hoped that the heat predicted for next week will dry out the fields.

The fertilizing of autumn cereals and grasses will get up to speed perhaps already next week.

In the fields of Pohja, spring work will have to wait, because the fields are wet both on the coast and partly inland.

There is still water and snow on the fields, and there is not enough heat either.

April was rainier than usual in the provinces of Ostrobothnia. One and a half or even twice as much water was obtained as compared to usual.

Huhtala thinks that the warmer weather predicted for next week will dry out the fields. Then the fertilizing of autumn grain and lawns will get up to speed.

It is reported from ProAgria Central Ostrobothnia that the farms are starting spring sowing in an uncertain situation.

– The challenges brought by the new EU support period are worrying. Purchase inputs have become more expensive, the price of grain has collapsed, and margins look weak. There is no certainty as to what land should be sown in this situation, says Huhtala.

In addition, the effects of the corona and the ongoing war in Ukraine are still being felt.
