The Ice Hockey League did not receive any answers from Heinola to requests for clarification.
Heinola’s Peliitto will not be seen in the ice hockey championship league, or Mestis, next season.
The league’s license committee announced today its decision on Mestis’ licenses for the 2023–24 season.
Next season, a quadruple series of 13 teams will be played in the regular season, i.e. a total of 48 matches.
The biggest changes to the past season are the acceptance of the Helsinki Jokers into Mesti and the dropping of the Peliittos.
The teams had to submit their license applications by the end of March. The license application came from Peliito within the deadline.
After that, additional explanations were requested from several clubs, including Heinola.
The first deadline was 17.4. and after that again on 27.4. was given as the new back limit. At the same time, the license committee informed the clubs that the end of April is the last chance to give answers and get the application processed.
Economic problems also had an effect
Another decisive issue was Heinola Peliitto’s drifting into bankruptcy proceedings. It shows that financial affairs are not in order.
– We have now paid special attention to the financial situations of various clubs and teams. We want in the future to have teams in Mestis that can financially last more than one season, says Soro.
– We don’t want situations like two years ago when Savonlinna Pallokerho (SaPKo) was relegated from Mestis for financial reasons.
Yle Häme could not reach Nagy today to comment on the licensing committee’s decision.
