The production and presentation of films has started to recover since the corona times. Last Easter’s audience numbers in Finnish cinemas were the best for more than five years, according to the Finnish Film Chamber.

The Marvel year continues with Guardians of the Galaxy
In terms of Marvel movies, 2023 opened in February with *Ant-Man*, and next is the third part of *Guardians of the Galaxy*.
Gunn was fired by Marvel in early 2018 after his Twitter posts years earlier were resurfaced. The tweets joked about pedophilia and rape, for example, reports Deadline.
In March 2019, Gunn was said to have returned to direct the trilogy. Before that, however, he directed Marvel’s rival DC’s *The Suicide Squad.*
The new Spider-Man movie is also coming to theaters, although the movie doesn’t belong to the same movie universe as Guardians. The animated *Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse* continues the story of its 2018 predecessor about the adventures of versions of Spider-Man living in parallel dimensions.
According to current information, the film will have its premiere in Finland before the United States.

The Disney-owned Freeform TV channel posted an open letter on Instagram in defense of Bailey. The letter stated that Ariel is a fictional character where skin color or nationality are not relevant.
– If even after this you can’t get over Bailey’s choice because he doesn’t look the same as in the cartoon, then that says something about you, the letter ends.

Spring brings horror to the theaters
The 1981 horror classic *Evil Dead* has grown into an entire film franchise that includes two sequels, a TV series, and a 2013 remake of the same name.
Familiar elements, on the other hand, are demons that haunt people and graphic content. The film is prohibited in Finland for people under 16 years of age.
*Evil Dead Rise* already gathered more than 8,200 viewers in Finland during its opening weekend.
Called a \”nightmare comedy\ the three-hour film tells about the surreal journey of a middle-aged man played by Phoenix to his mother.
For example, a reviewer from Rolling Stone described the film as the \”evil twin\” of the philosophical sci-fi film *Everything Everywhere All at Once*.

Hollywood productions still in trouble after the corona
The corona pandemic of 2020–2022 caused several film productions to be suspended or moved. The effects of Corona are still visible, for example, in productions shot in the Los Angeles area.
According to the latest quarterly report from FilmLA, which tracks local film and TV productions, shooting days in Los Angeles fell 24 percent from 2022 after a brief recovery.
According to Koistinen, the number of visitors to cinemas in Finland has already returned to normal. Things are even better than during the Corona period.
– The Easter holidays (from Maundy Thursday to Easter 2nd) were the best in terms of visitor numbers since 2017, i.e. better than the corona-free years 2018–2019, Koistinen says.
