For the exhibition, Berndt Lindholm’s works are currently being mapped, for example from private collections. Hämeenlinna Art Museum has one of Lindholm’s works.
In the collections of the Hämeenlinna Art Museum there is one of Lindholm’s works, _Evening in the Forest_, which has come to Hämeenlinna from the Viipur Art Museum. _Ilta metsäsä_ is currently on display at the art museum’s own Our choice exhibition, but it will also be on display at next summer’s Lindholm exhibition.
According to Pääskyn, Jokinen has also received information about Lindholm’s works from, among other things, old exhibition catalogues.
– On the other hand, there is currently not much information about works owned by private individuals. It would be great if the top work could be found in a private collection.
Master of forest and seascapes
Born in Loviisa, Berndt Lindholm studied art in the 1860s in Germany and France. He moved to Gothenburg in 1876, where he mainly painted beach and forest landscapes of the west coast of Sweden. He also worked as the curator of the Gothenburg Museum of Art and in management and teaching positions at the art school.
Living in Sweden, however, Lindholm maintained a close connection with the Finnish art scene.
– During and after his studies in the 1870s, he was a highly respected landscape painter and actively participated in competitions and even succeeded in them, says Tanja Pääskynen.
The exhibition presenting the work of Berndt Lindholm will open at the Hämeenlinna Art Museum on June 9, 2023.
