\”When you come here, you have certain things in mind,\” says a man who spent quality time with his wife in one of Finland’s most unique rental cabins

Many hosts want to offer their guests experiences and specialties. At the same time, ordinary and remote cabins are also popular accommodation destinations.

Would you like a night in a homemade igloo or a guest house lined with shingles? Or in a wooden house built in the wilderness, in an almost completely transparent plastic dome or maybe in purple buggies? Airbnb’s selection alone includes a bunch of specialties, many of which promise an experiential stay.

Experientiality seeks to stand out from the rest of the accommodation offer. In a cabin that has recently become available for rent in Oulu’s Virpiniemi, distinctiveness is served with an interior intended only for adults, clearly fueling sexual activity.

– When you come here, you have certain things in mind and want certain kinds of experiences. They are not in basic cabins, says Toni Väänänen.

The cabin includes, among other things, a tantra bench, an X-cross for tying, a sex swing and a cell. There are whips, chains and pegs hanging on the walls, and there are several mirrors on the walls. There are also various dildos and an injection machine for shared use.

Katri and Toni Väänänen wanted to try a break from everyday life in an adult cabin. There is only a small amount of time spent together in a family with children.

The Väänäs have participated in the cabin’s interior design, but are otherwise not connected to its business. They were also interested in how their design works in practice.

Katri Väänänen believes that such cabins are also needed in the accommodation market, because in the destination you can do and try things that you don’t have the opportunity to do at home.

– You can’t put, for example, a cross like that in your own room. And if a stacking machine costs a couple of tons, not many people have the opportunity, says Toni Väänänen.

The hygiene of the site worries the Väänäs, but they are confident that cleanliness has been taken care of.

– You have to use common sense. In other rental cabins, you eat with the same forks and spoons that others have used, says Katri Väänänen.

Hygiene is everyone’s joint responsibility

Guests are required to maintain a certain level of cleanliness, such as wiping off excrement when fresh. Guests clean the tools they use themselves, and they are cleaned again when the cabin is cleaned. Likewise, for example, the bed has an intermediate layer that stops moisture.

– If you even go to a hotel room with a UV lamp, I claim that even more attention has been paid to cleaning here, says Jonna Kurvinen.

Jonna Kurvinen's face stands out in a dark room with a mirror, LED lights and a sex swing in the background.
Jonna Kurvinen wanted Lust Inn Virpiniemi to be a luxury destination, not a cheap one. The price of a night’s accommodation is higher than a typical hotel night.

The Kurvises do not know that there is another similarly equipped rental cabin in Finland. Kirkkonummi has a larger mansion, which is characterized as an adult entertainment center.

– There haven’t been any trips to Kirkkonummi yet, so maybe you should visit.

Alongside the sexual elements, the entrepreneurs wanted to bring thoughtful details. For example, we had to wait a long time from Italy for the glittery grouting materials for tiling the bathroom.

Hotels offer panoramic experiences

In the middle of the room is a kelo tree.
The internationally recognized Kotkanpesä suite has a large pine tree in the middle of the room.

The demand for the eagle’s nest has encouraged us to increase the supply:

– We have later built the Aurora, Karhunpesä and Feeniks suites, and they have all been very popular, Kuukasjärvi says.

Feenix was built on the site of a hotel restaurant that was destroyed in a fire.

– In cottages, you can be like a bird in its nest and watch nature. Visibility from the cottage window can be up to 70 kilometers, Homanen describes.

There are more affordable versions of the bird nests than the versions with more bubbles. A night in a suite costs around 430 euros.

The window of the room shows a snowy landscape.
From the window of the Linnunpönttö suite you can see tens of kilometers away.

With a large operator, specialties are on the sidelines

According to Säkkinen, the most popular are detached cabins, where the level of equipment is not very high or modern. Renters are also interested in the islands’ only cabins or cabins that are a long way from their neighbors.

– We have a certain quality level and classification, so we simply cannot include everything possible in the selections, says Säkkinen.

We had to be prepared for critical voices

The entrepreneurs of Lust Inn Virpiniemi also want to break taboos with their cabin offer.

– I claim that sex is generally still taboo. We want to reduce, at least within couples, the taboo of being able to talk about one’s sexuality, says Jonna Kurvinen.

In the dark room there is an X-shaped cross and a black tantric bench.
Next to the cabin’s living area is a smaller room where the furniture and utensils are gathered.

He himself is a service industry entrepreneur. The feedback has been only positive so far, but there may still be gravel sounds.

– We are prepared for the fact that there will be negative feedback or that, for example, a customer does not want to work with me in my standard work. If sex and sexuality are so taboo for someone that they don’t want to meet me, then I don’t have to work with them.

Reactions have been prepared in such a way that the exact address of the cottage is not publicly visible.

– We want to protect our customers, so that cars are not driven by to see who is there as a customer.

The object of Virpiniemi is not meant to remain the only one. There is a chain in the thoughts that other bidders can join, as long as the cabin’s criteria are met.

– I have dreams that this would have spread throughout Finland and why not all the way to Europe, says Kurvinen.
