The district court gave verdicts on the shooting incident in Nastola – the person who shot into the victim’s house was convicted of causing danger

The shooting that took place in 2020 was discussed in the district court on Tuesday. The prosecutor demanded a sentence for the second main suspect for attempted murder.

The district court of Päijät-Häme has handed down verdicts in connection with the shooting incident that took place in Nastola in Lahti in the fall of 2020. There were four men in the case, three of whom the prosecutor demanded to be punished for firearms crimes and one also for attempted murder and an explosives crime.

According to the prosecutor, the suspect of attempted murder had gone to the victim’s apartment with another person and fired a handgun from the terrace into the building where the owner was. He didn’t hit the person in question. Some of the shots were fired by the accused into the gas bottle he had thrown inside.

The district court did not convict the man of attempted murder, but considered that the shooter was guilty of causing danger according to the alternative charge. He was sentenced to a total of one year and three months in prison for causing danger, a firearm offense and a minor firearm offence. The district court rejected the charge of explosives crime for his part.

The firearm crimes attributed to the other three men resulted in prison sentences of 30 to 80 days, the longest sentence being suspended.

The sentence handed down on Tuesday is not legally binding, it can be appealed to the Court of Appeal.
