A raccoon that wandered into the schoolyard offered the students a surprising biology lesson – an expert advises to stay away from lovable forests

The currently ongoing mating season made the female coyote, or kopelo, look for company in the wrong place.

The kennel that got lost in the yard of Eurajoki Luvia unified school on Tuesday and Wednesday did not pose a danger to the school’s students or staff.

According to experts, the bird, which seemed aggressive, was only excited by the music, not angry.

Seventh-grader Juuso Elomaa saw the kennel in the schoolyard on both days.

– It’s strange that it wanted to come to such a noisy place. I guess it had something in mind, Juuso Elomaa thinks.

Nature provided an extra biology lesson

– It is good for students of all ages to learn that in such situations you have to be careful and respect the animal. An animal can be fearful, and even if it behaves threateningly, it is not necessarily aggressive, says Savolainen.

The principal of the school, Pasi Savolainen, says that the raccoon even tried to enter the school premises.

– According to what I heard, the kennel was taken to Noormarkku, where there are certainly better conditions for this individual, says Savolainen.

In the wrong place at the right time

– The singing season of warblers and teals is at its most intense at the end of April and the beginning of May, and it gets the birds moving, says Lind.

According to Lindi, the bird getting lost right in the school yard is just a coincidence. According to him, the typical nesting places in the forest, clearings and rocks surrounded by old trees, are few and far between these days and the birds have to look for nesting places in a wider area.

In the event of a similar situation, Lind urges caution.

– Metso is a powerful bird, and you should avoid it. A good way is, for example, to walk with a stick in your hand and hold it on the ground on the bird’s side. Then the bird won’t come on, advises Lind.
