The Helsinki City Council has approved a plan change enabling the new large entertainment center planned for Suvilahti.
The city council has already approved the rental and sale principles of the entertainment center’s plots.
The new entertainment and event center is being designed by the Suvilahti Event Hub company, whose mastermind is, among others, Leppilampi. The new event center could accommodate up to thousands of people.
The Suvilahti Event Hub company has designed frameworks for the area that can be used all year round, for example for public events and film and TV productions. A hotel as well as restaurant and gallery spaces are also planned for Suvilahti.
Suvilahti Event Hub is to design the project’s business concept, arrange financing and build the project.
With the formula approved by the city council and the land rental and sale principles, the city prepares for a possible land transfer if the project goes ahead.
The city’s goal is to develop the Suvilahti area, known for its summer festivals, into a year-round event and cultural area. Suvilahti’s new entertainment center would make it possible to organize not only large festivals, but also events for the whole family and sports and hobby events throughout the year.
The Suvilahti area is known, for example, for the summer music events Tuska and Flow.
The music event has been organized in Suvilahti since 2007. However, due to the expanding construction works in the area, it is no longer suitable as a venue for Flow, the festival informs. Flow’s space in Suvilahti has been shrinking for years due to the pressure of compaction construction, especially the growing Kalasatama construction area.
