Public uproar interrupted the installation of the OULU letters – a new location is now being considered by a small group of politicians and officials

The OULU letters, which have sparked a heated public debate in Oulu, will probably not be included in the cityscape this autumn.

Oulu letters will be erected in Torinranta next to Kaarlenväylä.
The OULU letters were supposed to go up on Kaarlenväylä in Torinranta already at the beginning of September. They already had time to pour the foundations for the letters next to the busy bike path.

Originally, the letters were supposed to rise to crest height at the beginning of September. The place had been chosen next to the light traffic lane that runs near the city theater and the library, on the market side. The ranking was heavily criticized, among other things, because people taking selfies and looking at the letters were feared to endanger traffic safety.

The letters made of the so-called eco-concrete developed in research at the University of Oulu were already behind schedule when the molds used to make them cracked twice before the letters could be cast.

According to Salmi, the letters are now ready in their molds, but their place is being thought about again. According to Salmi, the contractor will be able to use the already cast foundation of the letters in the new location as well.

According to his assessment, it is realistic to think that possibly the publication of the letters will be postponed until spring.
