The celebration piece was commissioned from sculptor Kaija Kontulainen.
Next year will be the 170th anniversary of Hagman’s birth.
The work named Siina sculpture shows Hagman as a child. He was born in Kälviä in 1853 and lived there for his first 12 years.
The sculpture and the modification work in the area cost 10,000 euros, and the money is collected through a small collection.
In his childhood memoirs in 1936, Hagman talked about the importance of his birthplace.
– Jump and Walk, was, is and always will be my own homeland, everything else is something else, wrote Hagman.
Professor Lucina Hagman, originally from Kälviä, was a teacher and school principal and one of the world’s first female parliamentarians. She was also the first Finnish woman to receive the title of professor.
Hagman was a respected pedagogue, equality activist and promoter of Finnish-language education.
The Martta organization was founded by Hagman in 1899.
