Ice breaks the Oulu River quays in Oulu

Meltwater has raised the level of the Oulu River, and the currents have also caused ice to move in Oulu. Dock structures have buckled at the Raati marina and the Tuira winter swimming spot.

The ice on the Oulu River has broken the quay structures in Oulu.

On Tuesday, ice masses twisted the Raati boat docks as ice pushed the boat booms at an angle. On Wednesday, ice also moved the dock at the Tuira winter bathing site. Possible damage was investigated during the morning.

On Tuesday, the bathing area had to be closed due to a dangerous ice situation when the currents became stronger due to a temporary malfunction at the Merikoski power plant. As a result, the currents became stronger and ice floes accumulated near Tuira beach, but the bathing area was reopened during the evening.

Oulu’s Merikoski has already had to run more water than usual this spring.
