Hatanpää’s arboretum is expanding – the new park is named after Tampere’s first city gardener

Karl Johan Gauffin was hired as Tampere’s first city gardener in 1874. K.J. Gauffin park is the former area of \u200b\u200bthe city’s nursery.

The area of \u200b\u200bthe Hatanpää arboretum and manor park is complemented by the extensive and versatile K.J. In Gauffin Park.

There will be places in the park for playing, resting, playing games and field farming. The park also has flower meadows and places to relax.

Gauffin park is the former area of \u200b\u200bthe city’s nursery. It has been zoned as a park in 2019. There will also be apartment buildings nearby.

Almost all 617 trees in the area will be preserved, and 145 new trees will be planted.

The new park got its name from the first city gardener of the city of Tampere, Karl Johan Gauffin. Gauffin was a gardener for more than 20 years between 1874 and 1897.

According to the plan, the construction works of the park will start later this year in the southern part of the area. Construction has been phased over several years. For example, the playground will be built in later years.
