The big police operation in the morning involves the use of a firearm.

In Lahti’s Mariankatu, below the town hall, a large police operation started early in the morning with several units. According to the Häme police release, the incident is being investigated as a homicide. There were a dozen police vehicles in total, including an armored vehicle.

In addition, two rescue service ambulances and a command car had been called to the task.

The police arrived around three o’clock. A little later, a drone operated by the police was sent into the air, filming outside the window of the apartment building.

Inside the stairwell, the police equipped with bulletproof vests and submachine guns were also assisted by a dog patrol.

The arrested persons were taken away in police vehicles.

According to Tuomikoski, a gun cartridge casing was also visible in the stairwell and it is obvious that the events were preceded by shooting.

In the morning, the technical investigation of the police had isolated the apartment and there were investigators in white overalls. Other residents of the stairwell were also interviewed by the police.

According to the police release, the situation did not pose a danger to bystanders. The preliminary investigation is at an early stage and according to the police, it cannot be disclosed at this stage without jeopardizing further investigation.
