Silmukka-teos is Kimmo Lust’s main work so far and the first full-length album. The picture shows the cover of the comic book.

The winner of Sarjakuva-Finlandia was chosen by opera singer Waltteri Torikka from among ten finalists.

– The loop is vividly and powerfully described random memories of childhood and youth lived in the shadow of alcoholism. The child’s distress, loneliness and fear stop them. The pictorial narrative of the work is sensitive and the print is distinctive, Torikka justifies her choice in the press release.

According to Torika, a world permeated by insecurity is felt in the heart.

– The work raises thoughts and questions about parental responsibility and the role of alcohol in Finnish families. A thought-provoking, shocking and important work, Torikka justifies.

Lust’s work has previously appeared in self-published books and anthologies. His comics are usually based on his own experiences and often deal with mental health and sexuality in one way or another.

Sarjakuva-Finland was distributed for the 16th time in connection with the Tampere Kuplii comics event in Tampere. A recognition award of 5,000 euros is awarded to a domestic author for a meritorious comic album made alone or together with another party.

In 2022, approximately 70 comics albums produced by domestic forces were published. Of these, a total of 54 were nominated.

The four-person selection board appointed by Tampere Kuplii ry found the quality of the works to be high and the selection difficult.
