In the event organized on Saturday at Taidekeskus Väinölä, there is an opportunity to get to know the paintings of the artist, who became especially famous for his texts.
In addition to visual art, the event will dive into Itkonen’s extensive literary output through poems and stories. After the presentation tour, a rhyming workshop will be organized in the art center Väinölä and a gathering will be held to remember the artist.
Each participant can bring pictures, newspaper clippings or other things reminiscent of Jukka Itkone to support the stories.
Jukka Itkonen was born in Varkau in 1951. Known as a poet, lyricist, finnisher and children’s author, Itkonen’s warm texts speak to both children and adults. The multi-talented Itkonen also wrote plays, illustrated his own works and made music.
However, his most characteristic forms of expression were poetry and song lyrics. Itkonen wrote poetry for both children and adults. In 2009, his poetry work *Laululinnu saarella* won the prestigious Savonia prize. Itkonen’s works have been nominated three times for the Finlandia Junior award.
Jukka Itkonen passed away in December 2021, exhausted by a long illness.
