The unemployment rate in the province was 12.2% in February, with only North Karelia clearly worse off.
The number of unemployed persons in Päijät-Häme was lower in February than a year earlier in all municipalities except Hartola, Sysmä and Padasjoki.
According to statistics from the Ministry of Employment and the Economy, the number of unemployed decreased most rapidly in Asikkala and Iiti (-12%).
In Hollola, too, the number of unemployed was ten per cent lower than in February last year.
The unemployment rate in the entire province was 12.2%, or 0.9 percentage points lower than a year ago.
However, compared to the situation in the whole country, the numbers in Päijät-Häme are not flattering.
In other provinces, only North Karelia (13.6%) has a clearly higher unemployment rate and Central Finland (12.2%) is almost at the same level.
The proportion of unemployed jobseekers in the labor force was highest in Heinola (13.9%), Hartola (13.9%) and Lahti (13.4%). The lowest proportions were in Hollola (7.6%) and Asikkala (8.9%).
In February, the number of full-time layoffs was higher than a year ago, with the exception of Lahti and Iitti, but the number of layoffs in the entire province was still less than a hundred people compared to a year ago.
At the end of February, there were a total of 258,100 unemployed jobseekers in all of Finland. That is 7,500 less than a year earlier. In Finland as a whole, the unemployment rate was 9.7 percent, i.e. 0.4 percentage points lower than a year ago.
