Thanks to the new security screening devices, it is possible to carry more than a deciliter of liquid containers in hand luggage.

Air passenger security checks will be easier at Helsinki-Vantaa, says airport company Finavia. The change enables, for example, normal-sized cosmetic products and drinking bottles to be taken on the flight in hand luggage.

The rest of the security screening devices at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport will be replaced by new devices by the summer, thanks to which passengers can also carry liquid containers of more than a deciliter in hand luggage.

Finavia says that Helsinki-Vantaa will have both new and old security screening equipment in use side by side until the summer. Therefore, passengers are recommended to follow the current hand luggage packing instructions for the time being, according to which liquids can be taken into the cabin in packages of no more than 1 deciliter.

The reform only applies to passengers departing from Helsinki. Liquid restrictions still apply to passengers departing from Finavia’s regional airports and passengers arriving at Helsinki-Vantaa from outside the EU and changing planes.

Already a year ago, security screening technology was introduced in Helsinki-Vantaa, thanks to which liquids and electronics have no longer had to be removed from hand luggage during security screening. According to Finavia, this has speeded up security checks.
