The prosecutor demanded verdicts for manslaughter and occupational safety crime for two foremen in an accident in Lahti a couple of years ago.
The district court has dismissed the charges in a case where a worker died after a concrete block fell on him at a construction site.
The accident happened in Lahti at the Paavola campus site in September 2020. A concrete block weighing about four tons came off the retaining wall from a height of about 2-3 meters, and the worker in the trench was trapped under it.
The prosecutor demanded that the two foremen be sentenced for occupational safety crimes and manslaughter
The court considered, among other things, whether the defendants should have been able to foresee the boulder coming off the retaining wall or whether they could have otherwise prevented the accident. According to the district court, it was not shown that the foremen were guilty of the alleged negligence.
The judgment of the district court is not yet legally binding. It can be appealed to the Court of Appeal.
